We love exploring Old Town. Every time we are there I see a new place we need to visit. We were in a little bit of a hurry when I snapped these photos and were really cutting through this alley to save time. I love this nook and the moment below between Ryan and Emory.

Dean's Barber Shop

My dad went to Mr. Bill in Forsyth, Georgia. His utensil of choice was a straight razor, and he used it until he retired at the age of 99. The boards around his chair had to be replaced twice. They say he was the oldest working barber in the United States. Mr. Bill lived until he was 105.

When we came across Dean's Barber Shop in Old Town Fort Collins, Colorado, I knew Luke had to go. The day before we went I asked Ryan "should we call and make an appointment?" He quickly informed me that you don't make appointments at Barber Shops. While we were there, the gentleman pictured below on the right said "Luke will learn quickly that if you have to make an appointment then it's a place for girls."

Mr. Dean is a huge University of Florida fan, moved to Colorado in 1984 from Bradenton, Florida and never left. I imagine this is the first of many visits to Dean's Barber Shop for Ryan and Luke.

As for Emory and me, we'll find a place that accepts appointments.

Luke + Emory had a blast and while we watched the Nebraska football game yesterday, every time the announcer would say "Nebraska" Luke would say, "that's where Papa + Abbie live."

Mom taught high school English for 35 years with a solid reputation of being tough. But she also had the reputation of preparing students for college English. She retired once but went back . In 2008 she called it quits, and the timing was great because that was the year Luke was born.

Even working full-time she attended every sporting event my brother and I participated in, and that was a lot. Thanks mom, for your never ended devotion to us.

Snow day in Fort Collins

It started snowing in Fort Collins last night after Luke and Emory went to bed, and since I can't remember the last time I saw snow, Ryan and I went outside to play. It was a sideways snow, so it was kind of hard to see.

This morning when Luke woke up, he was ready to play right away. We waited for Emory to wake up, but in hind site we should have gone out while she was asleep. Luke loved it, and it's going to need to grow on Emory.

Ice Skating

We took Luke to Centerra to their little ice skating rink in Loveland, Colorado. It was a perfect first time spot to ice skate. We have a way to go on teaching him, but he enjoyed skating is short spurts. Emory sat this one out, but I have no doubt she will be a fan soon enough.

Most of you know that we are moving from Tallahassee, FL to Fort Collins, Co. Ryan moved in July, and we have been working hard to sell the house in Tallahassee. So when he came home for a week at Thanksgiving, we decided to surprise Luke + Emory with his visit. I told them there was going to be a surprise the day he was coming, but they had no idea the surprise was a visit from Ryan. At the last minute I asked Aaron Nix, a dear friend and recent FSU Masters Film School grad, to come over and capture the moment. Everything else speaks for itself. A big thank you to Aaron!

She's a 17 month old very adventurous climber. I have no doubt that Colorado is going to be a good fit for her. Her favorite words are ball, woah and go-go-go. She's independent but loves to be held too but on her own terms. She kicks her boots off all the time.

One night this week we ventured into Old Town to enjoy the lights. We had pizza a Beau Jo's adn explored the Clothes Pony + Dandelion Toys. The night was short, but we will be back soon to enjoy ice skating + carriage rides.

Fort Collins, Colorado

Luke, Emory + I headed west to Fort Collins for the month of December to be with Ryan. On day two we received two offers on our home and accepted one, and now we have a contract. We don't have internet in Ryan's one bedroom apartment, so blogging is a challenge. Also, we have one car, so we enjoy a run in the morning and a walk in the afternoon waiting for Ryan to get home. It's cold, but it really is a different warmer cold. However, 19 degrees is cold anyway, anywhere. This was our first weekend here, and most of our adventures took place then.

Saturday began with breakfast bagels at Gib's, which I rate an A+. I had the everything bagel with sausage, egg and cheese, and it was completely delish. From there we headed to the Poudre Canyon to see the sites. Wow. I'm not going to get tired of those views any time soon. After our adventure in the canyon, it was time to get a Christmas Tree. It's not completely decorated yet, so I will save those pics for another post. On Sunday, friends from Atlanta, Mike + Sarah, invited us to the Denver Zoo. It was great to see them and their two beautiful girls, Natalie + Meagan, after probably 8 years. Luke had never been to the zoo, so he loved it. To say the least I would give our first weekend a grade of a 100!

The house is still for sale, so I decided to look at it with fresh eyes. I removed more furniture in the kitchen, living room and in Luke's room. I minimized accessories too. Will that have an effect on a buyer? We will see...

Film

I recently pulled out my film camera. I actually thought it was not working, but I played around with a bit and low and behold it was working. I think it's good to go back and forth from digital to film. It helps me really focus on each shot. I had 36 exposures to do it right. I shot on manual, so I was sure the result I would get. I'm pretty pleased. I feel like some of the shots could have been more exposed.

Emory's {first} birthday party

Emory is one. It has been a wonderful year. Everyone says it, but it has been faaaast. So in her honor, we planned her a party. And with the help of Sommer Stiles of Paper Anniversary Co. we created some amazing invites to set the tone. Sommer and I brainstormed with the help of my pinterest board for Emory's birthday. In the end we decided to give everyone the opportunity to make a wish for themselves and a wish for Emory, complete with glitter [as luke calls it--"mommy's diamonds] + a candle. Here is the best part though. At the party Jake, Aubrey's Daddy--Emory's BFF, asked if they were supposed to bring the wish card and candle, so everyone could put their candle in the cake and make a wish with Emory. Honestly, I had not thought the idea through that far, but I loved it so much we made it happen. And, I think it might be a new tradition!

Sunday we all became kids again. We painted watercolor pictures + made origami puffs. Everyone was a good sport + actually think this would have made a terrific party for grown up kids too. To fill our bellies we had brunch and limoncello beverages with blackberries + club soda. The cakes were made by Publix. The design is in their wedding book [lifelong loves] + it's the top layer design. I had them match the "E" + "M" in the invitation.

Emory was having so much fun she decided it would be best to take a nap. Aubrey stood in as the party girl!

Surprise 90th

We surprised, Gigi, Ryan's grandmother, for her 90th birthday in Oklahoma last weekend. Her friend, Miguelito, of 75 years also came out for her birthday. They have recently reunited, so hold tight for that story! The birthday was a total surprise + all of the family was there to celebrate.

Crimson & Whipped Cream

When Ryan + I first learned about the new shop in Norman, Oklahoma known as Crimson & Whipped Cream, we knew we had to visit. First of all the name is pure genius considering the University of Oklahoma's colors are crimson + cream for those other fans out there. Well last weekend we got to visit + it did not disappoint. My cupcake was light + airy perfection. Luke's looks delish but it was gone before I could sample it + Ryan had nothing negative to say about the whoopie pie he ordered. The decor is open + inviting and has style from the entrance to the bathroom. Make sure to stop by the next time you're in Norman.

Oh, and Ryan thinks they should open a location in Bloomington, Indiana called Whipped Cream & Crimson in honor of Indiana University.

Upon arriving in Denver, we grabbed our car and headed straight to Fort Collins, CO. I wanted to see what it was all about. The drive north on I-25 was open + beautiful. When we entered FC, it was clean, manicured, meticulous and a cool 76 degrees. We were starving so we ventured toward downtown to hunt for a good spot for nourishment. We landed at CooperSmith's and enjoyed a black + blue burger, a teriyaki chicken sandwich, and two brews. We will indeed be returning.

Luke is growing up. He's well on his way to being potty trained. Today he did so great at school --four trips to the potty + one trip at home. So in honor of Luke being a big boy, I tidied up his room, took down his baby mobile and got rid of clothes that were too small. Luke is so kind, sweet + loving. He's stubborn, difficult + doesn't always listen, but when he loves, he loves big. I wouldn't change a thing about him. He is perfect + I can't wait to see what he becomes. Oh, and he adores his little sister.

have you ever potty trained a stubborn three year old? i have put this process off long enough, so this weekend was it. we began saturday morning wearing underwear. we learned early that luke's method was going to be hold it until the very last moment. by monday evening, he put up less of a fight at the last moment before going, but he still holds it forever and dances around to keep from going. it's hilarious and maddening all at the same time.

For the record-- Luke has never fallen asleep on the the couch. Mission Potty Train officially wore him out.

Three-- Gabba Style

Luke turned three April 30, and his party of choice was none other than yo gabba gabba. We decided to kick it up a notch by adding an element of water, hence the gabba water bash. I enlisted the help of the amazing Alli with the Hooray Design blog to create the invites, cupcake toppers + pin the eye on muno. The balloon pop game was inspired by this game I spotted on pinterest. It was a wonderful weekend, and we couldn't be more in love with our three year old!

Happy Easter

Happy, hoppy Easter. Since Luke is almost three, Ryan and I were really excited about this year's experience. As much as we wanted to sleep in, we set the alarm for seven am to prepare for the Easter bunny's arrival. After waking Luke and Emory up at eight, they went through their baskets and ventured to the back yard for an egg hunt. Then we headed off to church and completed the morning with brunch with Emily and Susan.

It was a good day.

Ryan is the best husband, dad + friend. I hope his birthday is the very best ever. I put this display in his office this morning before he arrived. I had the picture printed on kinko's on the wide format printer for $4.00 and got the idea from Jade. I made these streamers but kind of ran out of time to make more.

in theory this was a good idea. the plan was to have luke and emory take a picture holding two huge balloons in the shape of threes for ryan's birthday on friday. wind, coupled with huge balloons was problematic in itself. however, the real tragedy happened when one of the balloons broke free.

my grandma used to drive down to our house while we were at school and leave a batch of her chicken salad. we loved it + you will too. i personally add a lot of salt + pepper. the sour cream and mayo amounts to about 8 ounces each, but add it to your taste. it's the perfect spring lunch. enjoy.
